Friday, September 5, 2014 The heat index made Indian Trail rise to an unacceptable level in some classrooms today. Because we monitor our students for education gains, we also monitor our learning environment and make modifications. One modification put in place today was bringing kids into the air conditioned library to cool off. The One Room School feel was apparent as I observed groups of 5th graders participate in a science lesson in the Picture Book Nook, 3rd grade students listened to reading sprawled on the carpeted hallway with their Chromebooks, A 5th grade math lesson was in progress using the Promethean Board, while 4th grade students read and responded to reading using a menu of options, oh and I taught a class of 1st grade students in all of that. The constant joke of the afternoon was Little Indian Trail on the Prairie. SO that was the cake of the afternoon. The frosting came when the skies blackened dramatically and a seeming monsoon hit. The cherry came when dismissal arrived. A sea of umbrellas, cars, soaked individuals and students patiently waiting for their parents to pull up in the pick up line so everyone could just go home. These days make a great story and a sense of humor must prevail at all times. |
