I fondly remember taking home the book order flyers when I was in primary school. There is still a thrill of browsing through all the book possibilities as an adult. Your children are no different. Many of your students have definite ideas about what they like or don't like, but the thrill of the possibility is what reading is all about. Allow your student to dwell in different realms of reading by encouraging a wide assortment of books ranging from picture books, short chapter books, beginning readers (where they can read to you), magazines, online blogs for kids, and any informational book. Purchasing your books while exciting is not the necessity to become a reader. Visiting the library, re-reading old favorites, modeling that you read yourself. If you get lost in a book, chances are your child will notice and also find this an alluring activity.
